April 30 -- OVIEDO

The top-seeded OCP Lady Warriors softball team won the school's first district championship in softball on Thursday with an 11-1 victory in 5 innings over Trinity Christian Academy (Deltona). It was the third meeting in the last four games against the Eagles as OCP (15-7) closed the regular season with a double-header sweep 13-2 and 12-2 on April 22.

Freshman Aracelis Jimenez pitched the complete game allowing just 3 hits, 1 ER and 5 strikeouts. She also was 2-for-3 in four plate appearances, scoring three times and driving in 1 RBI. Sophomore Grace Thomas was 3-for-4 at the plate scoring three times with 1 RBI and freshman Naya Rosario was 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and one run scored.

OCP scored four runs in the top of the 2nd and 4th innings before scoring the decisive two runs in the top of the 5th inning that forced the 10-run rule into effect when TCA came to bat in the bottom of the 5th inning.

The Lady Warriors opened the 2A District-6 5-team tournament with a bye and then a 6-3 victory over 4-seed Geneva School. OCP is currently on a 5-game winning streak.

With the win, OCP will host an opening game in Class 2A Region 2 against Legacy Charter (Ocoee) on May 5.  The Lady Warriors have defeated the Eagles (13-10) in the two previous meetings, 14-1 (February 16) and 9-0 (April 1). Game time will either be 4p or 7p. Admission is $7. Tickets must be purchased using the ticket app, GoFAN.
