Warriors overcome delays to capture first win in first game.

SOUTH DAYTONA, FLA -- The Lady Warriors were able to earn their first win of the season against Warner Christian Academy yesterday winning 3-0.  The set scores were 25-5, 25-11, 25-16.

"Starting this season off with a win was really big for us, considering the fact that we had to quarantine at the beginning of our season, which we would've used to organize our team, and the fact that we're starting off with a fairly new team (whether it be skill-wise or actual players)," said Senior libero Brianna Cooper, who finished the game with a team-high 13 digs.

"We've built up our chemistry on and off the court allowing us to really play as a team. Our coaches have kept faith in us and we've continued to work hard in practice leading up to this win."

Sophomore Alexis Kimble had 8 digs, and freshmen Maddi Hull and Kalyn McIntyre added 6 digs each.  Junior Carlee Cruz finished with 6 kills closely followed by junior Aalyssa Gunn and sophomore Alana Ortiz with 5 kills.

Despite the challenges of last season and the tough start of this season, which included two cancelled preseason games last week, Cooper is positive about the direction of this year's team.

" As a senior, my expectations for the team and our season are to keep our heads up no matter the circumstances and to always remain a team, win or lose we do it together and build each other up."

"Coming off of a rough season, I feel like last night's win really showed us as a team how much we've improved individually and collectively and just how far we could take it this season."

Cooper added, "I'd say our confidence is at a 10 right now and we all have intentions of keeping it there. I'm excited about this season and I can't wait to see what we can do!"

The Lady Warriors travel to Ocoee to face Legacy Charter on the second day of a back-to-back road games.  The home opener is Thursday August 26 against International Community School.
