Lubin Named Florida 2A Player Of The Year

Seniors and Coach earn state and area honors

Senior Ven-Allen Lubin was recognized as the top basketball player in Florida's Class 2A by the Florida Dairy Farmers as part of their voting process for the 2022 Mr. Basketball.

Lubin is one of seven high school finalists representing the seven FHSAA classifications in the state that will be considered for 2022 Mr. Basketball. The voting is part of a statewide panel of high school boys' basketball coaches and prep media members. Lubin's senior teammate, AJ Brown, an Ohio University commit, was second in the voting results for the 2A classification.

Averaging 15 points per game on 58.3% shooting from the field, and 7.5 rebounds, along with 1.6 assists per game, the University of Notre Dame commit led OCP to it's third consecutive state championship. Lubin has been a four-year starter on varsity for OCP as he helped the Warriors to the state championship game every season. He was also recognized as the 2A Player of the Year as a sophomore in 2020.

In addition to the state recognition, Lubin was recognized as the 2A Player of the Year by the Florida Athletic Coaches Association (FACA) in District 11, which is a compilation of all basketball coaches in Orange, Seminole and Osceola county. Brown was given the honor last year ('21), Lubin the year prior ('20).

Head Coach Treig Burke was also recognized by the Florida Dairy Farmers as the 2A Basketball Coach of the Year. After leading the Warriors to a 26-4 record and their fifth state championship in his six seasons as the head coach. He has compiled a record of 153-25, and also led OCP to a state runner-up finish in 2019.

BROWN, LUBIN RECOGNIZED AS TWO OF BEST IN ORLANDO

The Orlando Sentinel celebrated the 2021-22 high school winter sports season by recognizing the best boys basketball players in Central Florida with their All-Area selections. Their All-Area players and Player of the Year features a first and second team, as well as honorable mention.

Seniors Brown and Lubin were among a group of players that would probably win any all-star game in the state, and possibly the nation. To see the complete list, click here.

Brown, a four-year varsity player has been a part of a historic one-two punch that along with Lubin won the school's second "3-peat" and had the area's longest winning streak (48) over the course of 3 seasons with a record of 105-12. He averaged a career best 17.7 points per game, while shooting 40.2% from the 3-pt line and 80.7% at the free throw line.

Junior Jayden Hastings earned honorable mention recognition with his defensive presence over the course of the season. Averaging 5.4 points per, 6.2 rebounds, while shooting 65.2% from the field.
