May 5, 2022 -- Mt. Dora, Fla

OCP track and field sent 12 student-athletes to regionals in 17 events being held at Mount Dora Christian Academy. After a long afternoon and night, several Warriors won their event, finished second, or within the Top 4 to qualify for the 1A State Track & Field meet being held on May 11 in Gainesville.

Sophomore Demarion Jenkins captured the 100m Dash with a time of 10.98, just .01 ahead of his rival from Holy Trinity, Jonathan Bailey, that he finished second to in the 100m dash in Districts.

Jenkins was also part of the first place 4x100m relay team that did not disappoint as they entered the meet ranked No.1 in the region. The Warriors won relay race with a time of 43.84. Jenkins anchors the relay team with sophomore Gadiahwan Louis, juniors Bradley Knight and Brian Thomas - all of whom play football for the Warriors in the fall.

OCP finished with Regional Runner-ups in three other events, 110m Hurdles, 400m Dash and 4x400m Relay. Sophomore Joshua Demosthenes ran 15.80 in the 110m Hurdles to finish second.  Sophomore Alexis Garcia ran a 49.42 in the 400m, and the 4x400m relay team of Jenkins, Garcia, and juniors Nick Rawls and Evan Sierra ran time of 3:29.64.

Additional state qualifiers were Jenkins in the 200m with a time of 22.61 and Sierra in the Triple Jump with a length of 12.84m.

In total, the Warriors will send 10 students to Gainesville on Wednesday May 11 to participate in five individual boys events and two boys relays. Jenkins will compete in the four events - 100m, 200m, 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay. He goes to states tied with the 5th fastest qualifying time in the 100m dash.

Garcia will compete in three events - 400m, 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay. He will have the 6th fastest qualifying time in the state in the 400m.
