OCP Clinches first FHSAA District Championship in a rout

Winter Park, Fla --

OCP Football clinched their first FHSAA District Championship with a 62-0 victory over Trinity Preparatory School. The Warriors clinched the first district championship in the reorganized FHSAA classifications for Class 1M (Metro), Region 1, District 2.  The 8-team regionals begin with quarterfinal action on November 11, 2022. 

The Warriors jumped out to a 28-point first quarter and 21-point second quarter against the Saints. OCP scored on nine of the 20 offensive plays they ran in the ballgame to a sum total of 430 offensive yards.

Senior Jeremy Miller rushed for two touchdowns (5, 4 yards), and senior Brian Thomas rushed for a team-high 82 yards on 3 carries with 1 TD (43 yards). Senior Jayden Alberty scored on a carry from 47 yards, junior Demarion Jenkins scored on a rush from 48 yards, and sophomore Elijah Hickson scored from 51 yards.

OCP's senior quarterbacks were 10-12 for 197 yards with 3 passing touchdowns. Makai Elder and Vilay Nakkoun both completed five passes on six attempts. Elder threw 2 TDs on 96 yards passing and Nakkoun passed for a TD on 101 yards.

Defensively, the Warriors limited Trinity Prep to 49 yards of offense on 40 plays. Freshman Kai Jones had a game-high five tackles (4 solo) and 1 TFL. OCP recovered one fumble and intercepted one pass.

In the four district contests, OCP was dominant on both sides of the ball. Offensively, the Warriors scored 200 points (50.0 points per game) and allowed 21 points in just two of the games. The other two games were shutouts. In the first half of those games, OCP outscored their opponents 162-14 in the first half.

From a yardage perspective, OCP averaged 378 yards of total offense to 91.25 yard average of total offense by opponents. 

The Warriors next opponent will be Northside Christian Mustangs from St. Petersburg, Fl. The Mustangs will enter the contest unbeaten (8-0) having won their district championship. Northside Christian is in the FHSAA Class 1M, Region 2.
