Senior Siarah Brown starts year on fire

ORLANDO, Fla --

The OCP Lady Warriors basketball team opened the 2022-23 season at home with a hard fought victory over East River high school, 66-51.

Senior Siarah Brown got the Warriors off to a hot start and early lead by scoring OCP's first 14 points in the game as OCP (1-0) raced out to a 19-10 first quarter lead. The Warriors would lead by 15 points, 34-19, at half as Brown would have 18 points on her way to a game-high 24 points.

The Falcons (0-1) would look to push the pace of the game and attempt to close their deficit with full court pressure. But, every score was answered by OCP who managed to only be outscored 21-20 in the third quarter thanks to timely baskets by junior Trinity Harden, senior Aalyssa Gunn and freshman Valeria Munoz. Harden finished with 19 points. Gunna and Munoz both finished with 9 points each.

Coach Lauren Ashley, in her second season at OCP, used her talented ballhandling trio of guards - Brown, Harden and Munoz - to slow the pace and essentially play keep-away from the Falcons as the Warriors danced, dribbled, and passed around the East River perimeter defenders for the final 3-4 minutes of the game only searching for layups or free throw attempts on committed fouls.

Once at the charity stripe, the Warriors made the free baskets and kept the Falcons at bay to secure the win.
