On January 12, 2023, a total of 722 girls and boys basketball players throughout the country were nominated for the 2023 McDonald's All-American game, the premier high school all-star game in high school basketball.  This year, nominees came from 44 states and the District of Columbia, attending 462 high schools across the country. 65 high schools from the state of Florida were represented. Orlando Christian Prep was represented for the first time in the school history by a girls basketball player.

Senior guard Siarah Brown, the OCP girls basketball all-time career points leader and the first OCP student-athlete to earn over 2,000 career points, was recognized among the top senior basketball players in the nation.  From the hundreds of nominees, 24 girls were selected to represent the East and West teams on January 24, 2023.

As prestigious an honor it is to be know as a McDonald's All-American, being nominated for consideration to the team is equally a unique honor.

“Providing a national platform to elevate and honor these players is what the McDonald’s All American Games is all about,” said Joe Wootten, McDonald’s All American Games Selection Committee Chairman. “We’ve been doing this for over four decades and have seen some truly amazing kids come through this iconic program. That’s why this moment is so special…the history, prestige and all that comes with it. These players are joining a long list of icons to be named nominees to the Games and it’s something that will never be taken away.”

“Becoming a McDonald’s All American Games nominee is bigger than one person – it’s about representing your family, friends, school and community on the national stage and doing so with pride of what you earned and respect for those that have paved the way,” said Vicki Chancellor, Atlanta-based McDonald’s Owner/Operator and Chair, McDonald’s USA Franchisee Marketing Committee. “On behalf of McDonald’s, we’re so proud of every nominee and know how much hard work went into this achievement. It’s important we take a moment to highlight the achievements of these athletes from across the country and celebrate their new status as a McDonald’s All American nominee.”

OCP head girls basketball coach Lauren Ashley has coached Brown for the past two seasons was elated to see Brown's growth be rewarded.

"Her determination to get better everyday is a testament to her nomination. She puts in the extra hours when no one's watching. She's always striving to do better or be better through communication and film watching. She's a rare athlete that's as tough as nails and loves this game. Her success is inevitable," said Ashley.

At the conclusion of the high school season, Brown has yet to formerly sign a national letter of intent to play college basketball, but she has received interest and offers, and intends to make a decision soon and pursue her playing career in college.

Congratulations "Sisi"! What an amazing career and person you are. OCP is proud of you and all that you have and will accomplish.
