OCP traveled up the Florida Turnpike and grind out another road victory

Wildwood, Fla -- October 8, 2021

Neither the muddy, soggy field conditions, nor their hostile opponent, would prevent OCP from securing their fourth consecutive road win of the season as the Warriors improved to 4-1 following a 15-6 victory over 5th-ranked (1A) Wildwood high school.

Junior quarterback Vilay Nakkoun would punch in two short-yardage touchdowns in the first half from 2 and 3 yards in the first and second quarter, respectively, while the OCP defense prevented the pass-oriented Wildcats from reaching the endzone on offense.

Wildwood's only points in the game were the result of a blocked punt recovered in the endzone with 9:55 remaining in the 2nd quarter. Trailing 7-6, Wildwood attempted to take the lead on a 2-pt conversion, but the pass attempt was denied by the Warriors. With 0:19 remaining in the 2nd quarter, Nakkoun scored his second touchdown. The Warriors converted a 2-pt attempt and the lead was nine going into halftime.

The sloppy field led to some sloppy play by both teams as there were a total of 6 turnovers in the game (OCP had four - three fumbles and one INT) and 24 total penalties, Wildwood had 14 for 140 yards.

Despite the mucky turf, OCP's running game still found a way to rush for a team total of 130 yards on 40 attempts. The attempts were relatively even among the four primary backs, senior Curtis Kimmons (13-43), sophomore Demarion Jenkins (8-33), junior Brian Thomas (9-28), and Nakkoun (10-26).

All three backs caught a pass from Nakkoun, who only had five passing attempts, with Jenkins having the biggest play with a 38-yard reception.

On the other side of the ball, the Warriors opponent threw 29 times for 231 yards most likely because that was their only successful plays. The OCP run defense held the Wildcats to -38 yards rushing on 25 attempts (-1.5 ypr).

OCP held Wildwood to 1/12 (8.3%) attempts on 3rd down and had four sacks for a loss of 30 yards. Senior Jamel Lynch had a team-high six tackles, 2 tackles-for-loss and a sack, and junior Jeremy Miller contributed five tackles with a sack and one TFL as well. Junior Cooper Cadorette had a team-high three TFLs and a sack.

Following the win, OCP shot up the MaxPreps.com Florida 2A rankings from 9th to 6th. The next opponent, John Carroll Catholic (Ft. Pierce), is ranked 7th.

The Warriors will travel to Fort Piece on Friday October 15 for the 7pm kickoff. Then, OCP will have their play their first home game of the season at Warrior Field for Homecoming on October 22nd.
