LADY WARRIORS BEGIN REGIONALS IN OCALA

OCP girls basketball team advanced to the FHSAA Class 2A Regionals as the 5th seed of Region 2 for the first time since 2020, which was the 5th consecutive year the Lady Warriors advanced into the state regionals.

Despite the disappointing loss to No.1 ranked Faith Christian in the district championship game, 69-44, head coach Lauren Ashley, in her first year at OCP (9-10), is preparing her team for the next two opponents - an opening round matchup Thursday February 10 at Meadowbrook Academy (Ocala) followed by a potential district championship rematch against Faith Christian the following Tuesday (Feb 15).

Meadowbrook Academy (15-5) are seeded 4th in the region after defeating Mount Dora Christian Academy 47-29 to win their district championship. MDCA is the only common opponent between the Mustangs and Warriors.  OCP defeated MDCA 55-24 back on December 18th.

The Mustangs are led 6-1 freshman Angel Ross. Ross leads their team in points per game (13.5), rebounds per (9.2), assists per (0.3) and steals per (4.5).  Offensively, Meadowbrook averages 44.55 points per game while allowing 34.35 points per game.

OCP is led by junior Siarah Brown who averages 21 points per game. Brown, who eclipsed the 1,500 point mark in her high school career a few weeks ago, also leads the team in assists (3.2) and steals (2.9) per game. Junior Aalyssa Gunn leads the team in rebounding averaging 8.1 points per game. Sophomore Trinity Harden is the second leading scorer on the team averaging 13.1 points per game while also averaging 6 rebounds and nearly 3 assists and 3 steals per game as well.
