February 22, 2022 -

On a palindrome "Twosday" featuring the number two, which will not happen for another 400 years, the OCP Softball and Baseball teams broke out the bats to earn two season opening wins against their opponents.  The softball warriors defeated Wekiva HS 15-0 and the baseball warriors defeated Cornerstone Charter Academy 17-7. It's a safe bet two wins on the same day will happen sooner than 2422.

The Lady Warriors only got three innings of work against their 7A public school foes as they jumped on their opponents pitching in the Top of the 1st with a 9-run inning. Two more runs were scored in the second and four runs in the 3rd.

Sophomore Mia Rosario pitched the 3-inning complete game shutout with eight strikeouts to earn the win (1-0). and she went 3-for-3 in three at-bats driving home two RBI and scoring twice. Junior Grace Thomas also went a perfect 3-for-3 in her three at-bats with three RBI and two runs scored.

Rosario and Thomas weren't the only Warriors to have a perfect day at the plate. Sophomore Lexi Perez went 2-for-2, drove in two runs and scored three times. Sabrina Boyer, who is in the 7th grade and making her debut with the Lady Warriors, went 2-for-2, in her two plate appearances with a RBI and run scored. Senior Dayanara Perez tied a team-high three RBI while going 1-for-3 and scoring once.

The Lady Warriors were scheduled to play a second game last week, and their first home game, against Foundation Academy, but it had to be rescheduled. Three games are on desk in the first week of March for the Lady Warriors.as they host a matchup with Mount Dora Christian Academy (4-0) on March 1. They travel to Lake Highland Prep on Thursday March 3 and return to home field against The Master's Academy on Friday March 4.  All games are scheduled to start at 4:00pm.

WARRIORS CROSS THE PLATE IN EVERY INNING

OCP Baseball scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning, five in the second, and another three in the third to jump out to an 11-7 lead for pitcher Wilfredo Figueroa to close the game with three scoreless innings. OCP would score a run in each of the final three innings.

At the plate, sophomore third baseman Jose Rojas would go 2-for-4, have 5 RBI and score once. First baseman Brayden Schuster (8th) would go 1-for-2 with 3 RBI, walk twice and score once. Senior Aydan Abalo, who was the starting pitcher, would go 2-for-3, score twice with one run and one walk. Leadoff hitter Abrahm Loguerre (Jr.) would go 2-for-2, a RBI and a walk while scoring three times.

In total, OCP would score 17 runs on 10 hits and 13 RBI while drawing 11 walks and only leaving three runners on base. Warriors would steal eight bases, led by junior Loguerre with three.

Figueroa's three scoreless innings came on 36 pitches (25 strikes) allowing just two hits and striking out two Cornerstone batters. Abalo opened the game with a scoreless top of the first before two crossed the plate in the 2nd and five runs scored in the top of the third. Only four of the seven runs scored with Abalo on the mound were credited as earned runs.
