Warriors Soar High Over Falcons

Orlando Christian Prep Varsity Warriors easily did away with East River 14-2 on Friday at home after the site of the game moved from East River HS to Azalea Park Little League.

The Warriors got things moving in the first inning, when junior Grace Thomas singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run. OCP would put three more up in the inning to lead 4-0 after the first stanza.

Orlando Christian Prep (7-0) would score four more runs in the second inning and another four in the third inning. The Warriors' big third inning was driven by a fielder's choice by sophomore  Aracelis Jimenez, an error on a ball put in play by Thomas, and a double by sophomore Lexi Perez.

Thomas (3-0) was the winning pitcher for OCP. The hurler went two innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out five and walking one on 34 pitches. Jimenez threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen, struck out four batters while allowing two hits and two unearned runs.

Whitney Tannehill took the loss for East River. The bulldog went four innings, allowing 14 runs on 12 hits and striking out one.

Sophomore Naya Rosario had a dinger in the second inning, which was the only home run on the day for OCP. Rosario also had a double as she went 2-for-3, driving in 3 RBI and a run scored.

14 runs scored marked the seventh consecutive game in which OCP scored 10+ runs in a game. In addition to Rosario's pair of hit, Jimenez (3), Thomas (2), Perez (2), and sixth-grader Yamilette Cordova each racked up multiple hits for the Warriors who had 12 in total. Jimenez went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Orlando Christian Prep in hits. She accounted for 3 RBI and stole three bases.

OCP will host Foundation Academy on Monday March 28 (4:30p) and travel to Timber Creek on Tuesday March 29 (6:00p). The Warriors are currently ranked 3rd in Class 2A according to MaxPrep.com.
