OCP Football secures second district win following overtime loss

Winter Garden, Fla --

On the heels of a tough overtime home loss last week on the final play of the game, OCP rebounded in a huge way with a 57-14 victory over district opponent, Foundation Academy.

Orlando Christian Prep (2-3, 2-0) jumped out to a 30-0 lead in the first quarter off four touchdowns by a trio of senior backs. After a 1 yard score by senior Brian Thomas, plus the 2-pt conversation, with 9:26 to play in first quarter, the Warriors scored on consecutive possessions.  Senior quarterback Makai Elder ran two yards for another touchdown and 2pt conversation (7:31), then senior quarterback Vilay Nakkoun scored on a 65-yard scamper with 5:58, and then a second touchdown run with 1:42 from 1 yard.

The Warriors offense gained 395 yards of total offense, 268 of those were on the ground.  After surrendering two consecutive touchdowns to Foundation Academy, OCP three more times before the half. Junior Demarion Jenkins rushed for a 19-yard TD with 7:47 to play in the second quarter, then Elder and Nakkoun would add two more scores. Elder threw to senior Jayden Alberty for another 19-yard scoring play, and then Nakkoun rushed for a 20-yard score, his 3rd of the night, with 1:08 to play giving the Warriors a 50-14 halftime lead.

It's the second district game where OCP scored 50 points in the first half.  They scored 50 points in the first half against Orangewood Christian on the way to a 50-0 victory.  Nakkoun passed to freshman wide receiver Kenyon Alston at the beginning of the 4th quarter for his 4th touchdown of the game (3 rushing, 2 passing).

Defensively, the Warriors held Foundation Academy to 140 yards of Total Offense. Senior linebacker Evan Sierra led the units with 9 tackles (7 solo) and 1 TFL. Senior linebacker Jeremy Miller recorded 4 tackles (3 solo), 1 TFL, 1 sack and 1 punt block and recovery.

RANKINGS AND DISTRICT SHOWDOWN AFTER HURRICANE IAN

OCP ranks as one of eight teams in the 1M classification with a positive strength of schedule, and the only team in the district, according to the latest rankings by Maxpreps.com, which also ranks OCP No.8 in the state.

The latest rankings released by the FHSAA on September 27, has OCP ranked 20th overall in the state for Class 1M, which is second among district opponents. The First Academy (4-0) ranks 6th.

The Warriors and Royals were set to battle it out for the district on Thursday September 29 in primetime with a contest that would be televised as a feature game by VSN Florida.  The streaming company broadcast high school football, and other sports, online and via streaming apps such as Roku and Apple TV.

As of this post, there is no rescheduled date set. Last year, OCP defeated TFA 14-7 in a weather-delayed game that moved from OCP to TFA due to weather and field conditions. Originally scheduled for Friday night, the game was played on Monday night.
