On May 2, 2021, Athletic Director Treig Burke, along with coaches from seven varsity sports (boys and girls), recognized their top performing student-athletes at the High School Awards Chapel. All high school students were in attendance, and the event was streamed LIVE on Facebook.

Warriors Come Home With Medals at State Track Championships

Three members of the 2021 OCP Track team competed in the FHSAA 1A State Championships at University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium in four events Friday morning - junior Jasmyne Wright (Girls Long Jump and Girls Triple Jump), sophomore Siarah Brown (Girls 400m Dash) and freshman Alexis Garcia (Boys 400m Dash), and all finished in the Top 8 earning medals, with Wright finishing 3rd in the Triple Jump.

Entering the triple jump state finals with the 4th best qualifying time, Wright jumped a personal and season-best 10.90m (35' 9.25") in her third attempt of four to finish 3rd in the state.  In the long jump, her first attempt of 4.63m (15' 2.25") was the best attempt of the day, earning 10th overall among 16 competitors.

In the girls 400m Dash, Brown raced in the 2nd of two heats with the Top 8 qualifying runners from Regionals to a new personal and season-best time of 58.69 seconds. She earned 7th place and a spot on the medal stand. This was the second consecutive race Siarah had set a personal and season-best record.  The first-place winning time was 56.62 seconds.

In the boys 400m Dash, Garcia ran 51.55 seconds to earn 8th place and a spot on the medal stand. The first-place time was 49.41. Alexis also raced in the 2nd of two heats with the Top 8 qualifying runners from Regionals.

Congratulations to Jasmyne, Siarah and Alexis on their outstanding finish to the track season, and all the Warriors that competed hard during the track season giving their best efforts in every meet and event.

Thanks to Coach Rhymer, Coach Goldson and Coach Demosthenes for their time, energy, and efforts to bring out the best in every middle and high school student that made the commitment to track and field this season.

Warriors Advancing to FHSAA State Track Meet

On Saturday May 1, three OCP Warriors advanced to the state track and field championships in four events after outstanding performances in the FHSAA 1A Region 2 meets held in Gainesville.

Junior Jasmyne Wright (G triple jump), sophomore Siarah Brown (G 400m), and freshman Alexis Garcia (B 400m) won first place in regionals to earn an invitation to the state finals. Wright also finished second in the long jump to earn an invitation to state as well.

Wright had the top two triple jump scores at regionals. She jumped 10.57m (34' 8.25") in her fourth and final attempt that was actually further than her third attempt of 10.54m. Jasmyne won the 1A District 8 championship in this event with season-best mark of 10.73m (35' 2.5"). The 10.57m score was the 4th best qualifying seed mark heading into the state tournament.

In the long jump, Wright jumped to a season and personal-best 4.91m (16' 1.5") in her third attempt, which surpassed her first jump of 4.89m (16' 0.5"). Despite the high mark, a competitor from Trenton HS jumped 5.05m (16' 7") in her third attempt as well to finish first.  Wright won the 1A District 8 championships in the long jump with a score of 4.82m (15' 9.75").

Brown raced to season and personal best in the 400m dash with her first score under 1 minute, 59.47. She also won the 1A District 8 championship with a time of 1:00.44. Siarah also ran the 100m and 200m in regionals finishing 6th in those events finishing with a season and personal-best 13.04 in the 100m dash. The 59.47 score was the 5th fastest qualifying time and seed mark heading into the state tournament.

In the Boys 400m Dash, Garcia ran a personal and season-best 50.91 with an impressive final 60m close to the race. He also won the 1A District 8 championship in this event with a time of 52.39. Alexis also finished third in the long jump and ran on the 4x100m relay team at regionals.  Garcia's 50.91 was the 7th best qualifying seed mark heading into the state tournament.

The 1A State Championships will be held Friday May 7 at the University of North Florida - Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla. Admission is $12 per session if purchased in advance, and $15 if purchased day of the event. *All Running Events are seeded by region meet mark.  The fastest competitors and region champions will be placed in the second heat of each sprint event.
